Hello everyone and welcome to Off the Warehouse!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a baseball fan. I
played from the moment I could pick up a bat and haven’t really stopped since,
always playing in some form or another. Something about baseball captivates us
all, whether it’s the rich and storied history, the spine-tingling feeling that
comes with a game-ending homerun, or the picturesque ballparks that backdrop
this fair game – including an aesthetically stunning work of architecture on
West Camden Street in Baltimore.
That’s where we come in.
All four of the main contributors to this blog love the
Baltimore Orioles. As life-long fans, we have experienced the greats like
Ripken, Murray, Mussina and Alomar, and present stars like Jones, Markakis,
Roberts and Wieters. We have endured a prolonged period of excruciating heartache
recently known only to Cubs and Pirates fans, as well as a magical 2012 season
that embodied so many of the things that have made us love baseball in the
first place. And above all, we have all spent time basking in the shadow of
that mighty warehouse, cheering our Birds on to victory.
Founded on this love for baseball and all things Orioles,
Off the Warehouse aims to be an exciting and informative outlet to keep you
apprised of news and issues, and spur heated debates over the quality of the
team and what big move Dan Duquette should make next. This will not be your
traditional blog with game recaps and statistical analysis (well, there may be
some – any sabermetricians out there?), but rather our goal is to inform you,
entertain you, anger you and above all, ensure that the Orioles stay a hot and
fresh topic in the baseball world.
Our writers bring diversity, from Matt living in Virginia in
the heart of Nats territory; to Pat, our resident Baltimorian; to Nathan, our
displaced Marylander living in the South; to myself, perhaps the biggest O’s
fan north of the border. Our conversations are always lively, opinionated and
loving (I may have made that last one up), and we strive to bring you more of
the same and invite you to join us on this crazy ride.
We encourage you to comment, email us with ideas and topics
you’d like to see covered in the blog, and above all, have a blast as we
discuss the Orioles and all things baseball. Feel free to write us at offthewarehouse54@gmail.com.
With that being said, I think it’s about that time. The
anthem has just wrapped up…
…PLAY BALL!!!
